Turblown Engineering's Electric Water Pump( EWP ) kit is a complete bolt on system designed to eliminate the OEM belt driven water pump. Traditionally an electric water pump upgrade yields between 1 to 2 percent more rwhp by reducing parasitic drag on the engine. The OEM belt driven pump requires power to drive it; removing this " frees" up more hp. More importantly an EWP upgrade upgrades the reliability of your cooling system:
Removal of the mechanical thermostat that is prone to failure
No more cavitation like the OEM water pump
No more belt slippage when removing the air pump which is commonly found when not using an idler pulley( even if you have larger diameter alternator and water pump pulleys- the belt will still slip, or even worst you have it torque so tight it will wear out the front main bearing, and alternator bearings)
Ability to control pump flow based on coolant temperature while engine is running, and post shutdown
LCD controller allows cockpit access to coolant temperature and Alarms
Turblown offers two different versions of this system; Street or Race
The Street kit uses the OEM FD3S waterpump housing. This does not require an alternator relocation bracket, and the loss of either the a/c or p/s. It also retains all the OEM water connections( throttle body coolant, turbo cooling lines, heater core lines, radiator hose positions). This system can be used on the track, and only differs in ease of installation, cost, and loss of oem functions.
The Race kit is more intense, and not yet finished. It mainly differs by requiring an included alternator relocation bracket( with the loss of either A/C or P/S mandatory). A supplied billet water pump housing that replaced the OEM unit completely. This billet unit includes a pressure cap assembly, and ports for heater core/turbo cooling lines, AST etc. It also moves the EWP pump up closer to the engine for aesthetic reasons. Again there is no difference in cooling performance between the two versions.
Both kits include the Davies Craig EWP 150 Alloy pump, LCD controller kit( clamps, wiring etc) & new Gates Alternator Belt if chosen as a full kit.
Street kit includes an adjustable bypass block off that also houses an included thermostat seal. Please note OEM thermostat is removed on both kits. Thermostat bypass IS required when not using a thermostat!
